July 15th, 2016, Friday.
I was working in the city center and was afraid to go out
because of the ongoing ISIS bombings around the country. Besides that,
everything was normal. I had tickets to opera "Entführung aus dem
serail" in the garden of Old Ottoman Palace, where Mozart dreamt of when
he wrote it. During the second act, I started to hear the planes flying over
us. My friend messaged that soldiers closed the Bridge with tanks. Everyone was
saying it is better to go home. I was living on the other side, I took the last
Metro crossing below the water. When I reached my neighborhood, all Bars and
restaurants turned TV on, all of them were saying simultaneously : "It is a
Military Coup, go home!"
Some people were still drinking their raki but most people
were queued in front of the grocery stores to stock some food for the curfew. Because bread and pasta were finished, I had to buy fancy cakes, cooking support and whatever expensive produces left on the shelves. If there were going to be curfew, I was going to live it like a rich/queen:p
It was surreal, a little hope that finally government would go was warming our
hearts but also feared us because nothing good would come from a Coup. I went
home, my handsome single neighbor upstairs texted "hey, are you
home?". He came down, while we were watching the streets washed with blood
and listening the fear on the news, we made love on the couch. If it was the
last day of the world we know, let's make a proper farewell to it!
We fell asleep and woke up early in the morning. TV was
saying Coup attempt was failed. Nobody understand wtf happened. We went to seaside with my handsome neighbor. Cats,
birds, stray dogs and the peaceful water reflecting the shy sunshine. We sat
down on the grass, and I put my head on his shoulder. We thought: We didn't
die today too! Everything looked the same outside, but our country and us have never been same again..
